Do you suffer from back pain? If you do you are not alone! Statistics have shown that 80% of North Americans’ will suffer a bout of back pain at some point in their lives. Now that’s a lot of discomfort!
Interestingly most of these back injuries can be attributed to the daily activities of life or better yet, lack of daily activity. Poor alignment, weak core muscles, prolonged sitting and standing, poor lifting techniques all lead to the wear and tear, strains and sprains as well as arthritic changes in the human body. Eventually over time, these factors add up and we in fact “earn” our injuries, such as Degenerative Disc Disease, Prolapsed or Herniated discs.
But not all back-pain sufferers are aware of the relief solutions available to them.
What are the options? What can you do to address these faults that lead to back pain in Mississauga and Oakville? First and foremost see your chiropractor, physiotherapist or family doctor to be evaluated and assessed. When you are assessed in my clinic for example, here are some of the therapies’ that I may recommend for you:
- Chiropractic: For back pain and injury, chiropractic is an effective method to keep the spine properly aligned, treat extremity joints and nerves and reduce pain. Acupuncture, to relieve pain and improves energy flow in the body; and Interferential Current and Cryotherapy, both extremely effective in reducing pain so that you can get on with healing!
- Myofascial Release Technique: is the fascia therapy of choice to relieve pain. This therapy works the soft tissue of the body, by breaking down scar tissue, increasing blood flow, which helps the function of the muscles, thereby assisting in the connection of one group of muscles to another, resulting in the ability of your body to move efficiently!
Once we have taken patients through assessment and treatment recommendations, then it’s time to reinforce how to move correctly and introduce patients to a Therapeutic exercise program.
- Therapeutic Exercise: most people don’t know how to move and our exercise approach is an effective way to learn how to move better, to prevent or treat an existing injury. You can participate in supervised therapeutic exercise classes or arrange for one-on-one training!
Finally, in some people their feet can be the source of their pain, and to relieve stress you could consider:
- Custom Orthotics: help provide relief from painful foot problems as they help to re-align the foot that can cause lower back discomfort.
