ART® has become one of the most sought after soft-tissue treatments in the world today. It’s one of the most effective forms of treatments for a wide variety of soft-tissue and respective-motion injuries.
At City View Chiropractic we provide a very high standard of care with Active Release Techniques (ART®) an effective soft tissue therapy.
City View uses Active Release Technique® (ART®) a highly developed massage technique. ART® is a patented manual hands-on therapy that deals with treating damaged soft tissue and injuries. The term ‘soft tissue’ here implies muscles, nerves, tendons and the fascia surrounding the muscles. ART® has proved to be a huge advancement in treating injuries with 90 percent success rate.
Active Release Technique ART® has effectively resolved many injuries that were supposed to be ‘non-treatable’. Specific injuries that are treated with ART® include repetitive sprains, muscle strains, joint dysfunction, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, chronic back pain, shoulder pain, knee problems, tennis elbow and shin splits. Most of the joint and muscle related problems are actually triggered due to overexertion and sports injuries. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.
HOW DO OVERUSE CONDITIONS OCCUR?
Over-used muscles (and other soft tissues) change in three important ways:
- acute conditions (pulls, tears, collisions, etc)
- accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma)
- not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia)
Each of these factors can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area. This scar tissue binds up and ties down tissues that need to move freely. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonitis, and nerves can become trapped. This can cause reduced range of motion, loss of strength, and pain. If a nerve is trapped you may also feel tingling, numbness, and weakness.
An advanced massage therapy like ART® can prove to be very effective for such problems. The massage technique comprises stretching muscles and tendons, and applying pressure to breakdown scar tissue so that blood flow can be increased to the affected areas.

WHAT IS AN ART® TREATMENT LIKE?
Every ART® session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. The ART® provider uses their hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements.
These treatment protocols – over 500 specific moves – are unique to ART®. They allow providers to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting each individual patient. ART® is not a cookie-cutter approach.
